What Is a Walk-in Opportunity?
By default, the Sign-in Console will only show volunteers who are registered for an Event or Project that is occurring on the current day. The exception to this is if you have walk-in opportunities enabled in your system - we refer to this as "Walk-in Registration". Enabling Walk-in Registration means volunteers who have not pre-registered for an opportunity can use the Sign-in Console to register on-site the day of the event.
To utilize this functionality, it will need to first be enabled in your “System Configuration” under the section Sign-in Console / Kiosk Options. You can choose from the below options for this Allow Walk-in Registration via the Sign-in Console / Kiosk setting:
- ‘No’ - Walk-in Registration will not be enabled in your system.
- ‘Yes’ - Permits Walk-in Registration in your system and all opportunities that have been enabled as a walk-in Opportunity will be available in the Sign-in Console.
- ‘Yes - w/ Reservation Codes’ - Permits Walk-in Registration in your system, and the system includes a selection box next to the sign-in button on the console to allow volunteers to select a Reservation Code as part of the sign-in process when relevant. Volunteers that aren't using a Reservation Code can just sign in as normal and volunteers wanting to use the Reservation Code can select it from the box before clicking the sign-in button.
When Walk-in Registration is enabled, it allows both pre-registered volunteers and walk-in volunteers to sign in for opportunities on-site using the same workflow via the Sign-in Console. This means that even if a volunteer is not registered for an opportunity on the current day, their name will appear and they can register for any walk-in opportunities that are available. This will also allow new volunteers to create an account through the Sign-in Console as a walk-in using either the full application or the QuickReg application
Where are the Walk-in Opportunities Listed?
If a volunteer is not already registered for any opportunities that day, the default view will show all the opportunities available for walk-in registration.
If the volunteer is already registered for a different opportunity that day, the system will have a View button for Walk-in Registration Opportunities. This will then display all applicable opportunities to choose from that have walk-in registration enabled.
Enabling Your Opportunity as a Walk-in Opportunity
If you have first enabled Allow Walk-in Registration via the Sign-in Console / Kiosk in your “System Configuration” under the section Sign-in Console / Kiosk Options then opportunities are enabled to allow Walk-in Registration by default, but this can be disabled on an opportunity-by-opportunity basis. To disable a current opportunity click the Update/Edit Opportunity icon (), scroll to the bottom of the page, and expand the Advanced Options section. Locate the Allow Walk-in Registration for this Opportunity via the Sign-in Console / Kiosk setting and choose ‘No’ to prevent the opportunity from being included on the Sign-in Console as a walk-in opportunity.
