I am creating a 'test' volunteer and running into problems. When I log in as this 'test' volunteer, I can see multiple volunteers' information that are not this 'test' volunteers family members. Why is this?
The issue that you are running into is a feature used by CERVIS and a common problem that administrators encounter when testing out their systems. When creating example or test volunteer profiles, groups will often use a personal email or phone number or the organization's email or phone number. This in itself is not a bad thing, however, in CERVIS the way that family members are linked is by using a common "family" phone number or email address.
If two family members create volunteer profiles (independent of the console used to do so or the time completed) the accounts will be linked if the phone numbers or email addresses (or both) are the same. (This is not true of volunteer names, even if they are identical, as that is possible for unrelated persons.)
The result of this link that is created between family member accounts is that a parent or spouse can register their children or spouse for events at the same time as they are registering themselves. The only connection between these accounts is the ability to register other family members for events. A volunteer cannot view or edit any other information of the family member.
As stated before, this is a common issue in testing accounts because often the same email addresses or phone numbers are used for multiple "unrelated" test volunteers. If you are encountering this issue, please ensure that your new volunteers have different phone numbers (even if they are not real) and different email addresses. Once these steps have been taken, those volunteers who were encountering the issue will not be linked anymore.
You can view the volunteers to whom a volunteer is linked by clicking View Details for ____ (volunteer name), which is the magnifying glass icon (), from the volunteer management menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the pop up window to see the list of profile matches.
